What Data I Collect
This website collects very little personal data:
- Contact form: If you use the contact form, your name, email address, and message are composed into a mailto link that opens in your own email client. No data is stored on this website's servers.
- Email signup: If you request to join the mailing list, you send an email from your own email client. Your email address is then stored in my personal email account for the purpose of sending you updates.
- Server logs: This site is hosted on GitHub Pages. GitHub may collect standard web server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited) in accordance with their own privacy statement.
Lawful Basis for Processing
Where personal data is processed, the lawful basis is:
- Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) UK GDPR) for responding to your enquiries and carrying out my duties as an elected representative.
- Consent (Article 6(1)(a) UK GDPR) for adding you to the mailing list, which you can withdraw at any time by emailing me.
Third-Party Services
This website uses the following third-party services:
- GitHub Pages (hosting) — Microsoft/GitHub may process server log data. See their privacy statement.
- Google Fonts (typography) — Font files are loaded from Google's servers. Google may receive your IP address when fonts are loaded. See Google's privacy policy.
This website does not use analytics, advertising, tracking pixels, or social media tracking scripts. The share buttons on articles link to third-party services but do not load any third-party scripts or set any cookies.
Cookies
This website sets minimal cookies. See the Cookie Policy for full details.
Data Retention
- Mailing list: Your email address is retained until you ask to be removed.
- Correspondence: Emails sent via the contact form are retained for as long as necessary to deal with your enquiry, and may be retained longer if related to ongoing casework.
- Server logs: Controlled by GitHub; typically retained for a limited period.
Your Rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data I hold about you
- Rectify inaccurate data
- Erase your data (where there is no overriding reason to retain it)
- Restrict or object to processing
- Data portability
- Withdraw consent at any time (for mailing list)
To exercise any of these rights, email tom@tompickup.co.uk.
